Crown or low-profile molding: which suits your BILLY?

Start with the top edge

The top of a bookcase is a small part of its overall shape, but it can change how the whole row reads in a room. A plain top keeps the furniture simple. A shaped molding gives that upper edge more definition.

FURNIX3D offers a classic Crown Molding Kit and a Low-Profile Molding Kit for BILLY. Both are decorative additions to existing furniture, not complete bookcases or a replacement for furniture assembly and wall anchoring.

Choose classic crown for a more defined finish

The classic profile has a shaped, projecting top edge and returns around the sides. It is a useful option when you want the bookcase wall to have a more pronounced architectural finish.

Our classic crown extends approximately 2 inches above the cabinet top. Check the actual space to your ceiling, existing trim and any nearby obstacles before deciding. A room illustration or the 3D planner cannot confirm that clearance for you.

For a connected row, the visual line continues across the cabinets. If your bookcases stand separately, plan a complete kit for each group rather than one kit for the combined width.

Choose low-profile for a quieter edge

Low-profile molding is the more understated option. It dresses the upper edge without the taller classic profile, which may suit a simpler room or a project where you want less emphasis on the top of the furniture.

Compare the actual product photographs and its dimensions before ordering, especially under a low ceiling. Low-profile does not mean that no clearance is needed. If your space is tight, send us a photo and measurements so we can check the fit.

Look at the material as well as the colour

The kits are modular, 3D-printed PLA. Fine layer lines and small joins may be visible; the close-up photographs show what that means on the real product.

Classic crown comes in White, Black, Dark Brown and Light Beige. The molding is solid matte colour, without wood grain. A coordinating colour can work alongside an IKEA finish without being an exact match. Check the available names on the product you choose, because the low-profile listing uses a different set of option labels.

Make the final choice with your measurements

Style comes first, but compatibility makes the decision usable. Count your Wide and Narrow cabinets, check their depth and confirm that adjoining tops are at the same height. The standard kits are for 28 cm deep BILLY bookcases; ask us first about deeper models or unusual arrangements.
